It occurred to me that I am in the midst of a skincare rut. I’ve been using the same skincare routine for over a decade (Clinique 3-Step, yo), and while it has been working for me it’s probably time for a change. The old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” shouldn’t necessarily apply to your skincare. The reason? The needs of your skin change over time. While you may have had oily skin when you first started on your current routine, perhaps now your skin is more on the combination side. Or, if you’re like me, now is the time to start incorporating anti-aging products, too.
It can be scary to let go of something that has been ingrained into your daily life for 10+ years. Enter Sephora (where else?!) and their Skincare iQ system. This handy, interactive program helps to take the guesswork out of finding your new skincare products. Simply answer a few questions on the touchscreen TV about your skin needs and concerns, and it will pop up with a list of products designed especially for you. You can also grab free samples of your recommended products from one of their cast members (no joke, Sephora staffers are called cast members). Try them out at home and see how they work for you. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that by simply using the Skincare iQ machine – whether you buy the products or not – you get 100 points on your Sephora Beauty Insider card! I mean – that is awesome.
My advice? Start small – don’t do a complete overhaul of your skincare routine right away. Particularly if you have sensitive skin, it’s better to ease into the changes then to leave your skin feeling attacked. A face wash is generally a good place to start. I’m experimenting with a few right now from Origins and Fresh (samples, of course!).
And if it doesn’t work, it’s totally OK to stick with the ‘ol tried and true. The best skincare routine is the one that works for you.
